Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Our dog Fritz loves his treats! His internal alarm clock goes off every night at 8:30 p.m. rain or shine (snow in our case today for April 16th!). He has a very good memory. I usually give him a few treats at that time. I enjoy making my own treats because they are easy, less expensive and I know what they contain. This is a small batch recipe . I used one of my small bone cookie cutters from the set I am currently selling in my online store. I would probably double or triple this recipe the next time I make it. Your dog will love them!

Ingredients

• 2 cups rolled oats

• 1/2 cup sweet potato

• 2 Tbs. coconut oil

• 4 Tbs. water

Cooking Directions

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Coat a cookie sheet with a light spray of non stick oil like Pam.

2. Add oats in a food processor and process on high until the oats turn to a course flour. (Keep some in reserve for rolling dough.)

3. In a KitchenAid mixing bowl add the processed oats, cooked sweet potato and coconut oil. Put mixer on second slowest setting with paddle attachment and combine all

ingredients. Add 1 Tbs of water at a time until a ball forms. If the dough is too sticky add a little more of the reserved flour. (If your dog does not have wheat allergies you can use everyday baking flour).

4. Place some flour on your baking surface and roll out dough to about 1/4 in. thick. Use a bone shaped cookie cutter or knife to cut the shapes you would like.

5. Bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove and let cool. Then place in an air tight container.
